Old Testament 1 at John Knox Theological College

A person will never properly understand the New Testament Scriptures if the Old Testament remains a mystery to them. Yet, for many Christians, the pattern, unity, and incremental nature of the Old Testament remains vague or unknown. Understanding these features will make an indelible impression on the mind and heart of each student of God’s word. For example, not only does the subject matter of the first three chapters of Genesis bear a remarkable resemblance to that of the last three chapters of Revelation, but also all the chapters in between are so intimately related.

Old Testament 1 lectures have as their distinct feature a concern with the historical and redemptive progress of God’s revelation as disclosed in the Old Testament. This redemptive history will be seen from the unfolding of the Lord’s covenant of grace with His people and its consummation in the Kingdom of God, through the Person and Work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

These lectures will cover the period from Genesis to 2nd Kings along with the book of Psalms. An introduction will be given to each book, its purpose, an overview, and its theological emphasis. Special attention will be given to: an exegesis of the creation account, the Fall, and the unfolding of the covenant of grace with Adam, Noah, Abraham, Israel & David.
